2026 Region 2 Winner for Two-Lane Highway ADT Greater than 2000

This project targeted a critical 5.2-mile stretch of Highway 79 to improve traffic flow and safety by adding dedicated passing zones between two major agricultural hubs. RedStone’s performance on this job was noted for maintaining high smoothness and density standards despite the heavy agricultural and commercial traffic on Hwy. 79.

Project Facts

Location: Highway 79, Sections 10 and 11, across Arkansas and Jefferson Counties

Primary Goal: Construction of four alternating passing lanes with two for northbound traffic and two for southbound traffic, each approximately one mile long

Total Length: 5.244 miles

Awards: Recognized by the Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA) for excellence in the Two-Lane Highway (ADT > 2000) category in Region 2

Work Details

Shoulder Improvements

Included 6-foot paved shoulders on the passing side and 8-foot shoulders on the non-passing side to enhance safety.

Earthwork Needed

Required clearing and grubbing of 5.5 acres of new right-of-way for the passing lane footprints.

Pavement Type

The project used heavy-duty asphalt construction designed to withstand high average daily traffic.

  • ACHM Surface Course (1/2″): Roughly 13,362 tons of mineral aggregate used for the final driving surface
  • Asphalt Binder (PG 70-22): Approximately 778 tons of high-performance binder used to ensure durability
