Why a Trencher is Needed for Electrical and Plumbing Work

Sep 12, 2024 | Blog

Trenchers are heavy lifters on a construction site. They are most often used for digging irrigation, installing plumbing, electricity cables, heating system pipes, and drainage and sewer lines. On a construction site, one of the most expensive jobs to do is installing plumbing and electrical work underground. But with a trencher on the job site, you can cut time and labor down.

Why a Trencher is a Necessity of Electrical Work

At Redstone Construction Group, our crew utilizes a range of machinery and tools to make our jobs easier and safer. Trenchers are a necessity for electrical work on a jobsite. In order to connect electric power to and from a home or business underground, you’re going to need to dig a trench, especially if you’re installing city-wide electrical lines.

The trench will allow for straight connections to and from power sources, and also allows for the lines to be a safe distance away from anything that could happen above ground.

Why a Trencher is a Necessity of Plumbing Work

Trenchers will do a bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to plumbing work. Just like digging trenches for electrical, a trencher will dig a trench down deep enough to safely install and house plumbing systems.

If you are connecting a plumbing line to an existing line, a trencher will be a lifesaver for labor. In all likelihood, you will have to dismantle concrete and or stone to get your plumbing where it needs to be. Once that concrete and stone are out of the way, allow the trencher to do the rest.

How to Safely Operate a Trencher

Though trenchers are the heavy lifters on construction sites, they are still prone to hazardous conditions. While operating a trencher, be mindful and aware at all times, and do not operate heavy machinery in hazardous conditions, like severe weather. Keep an eye out for the following:

  • Falling loads like debris or other equipment
  • Slippery and or wet conditions
  • Cave-ins of trenched material and debris
